First of all, I want to share with you my new hair tutorial. Still I'm not really good at making them, but it think I improved a little ^___^
I'm often asked about my hair, how I take care of it and how I keep it healthy and nice looking. That's why, I decided to make a post about it! Pleas keep in mind I'm not an expert and I'm only sharing with you what I do with my hair and what works on my hair.
First of all, this will be probably disappointing but unfortunately I don't have any miracle secret that makes any hair turn from "old witch" to "ethereal mermaid". I was lucky to be blessed by Mother Nature with thick and strong hair and I mostly focus on keeping it as nice as it is, not on improving its condition.
Ok, let's start!
I believe that minerals and vitamins are basic of having beautiful hair. To produce healthy hair, you body needs to have enough of all of those important elements that are the core of hair. When there's "resources deficit", your hair will start to grow weak and thin, and when it grows like this I don't think there's any way to make it thick by any conditioner, hair mask and so on. I'm trying my best to eat good, I stay away from fast food and highly processed food, instead I cook most of meals by myself, from scratch. I'm vegetarian and everyday I eat lots of vegetables, snack with dried fruits and nuts. But I'm not perfect, usually my portions of food are very small, and lots of my daily calories come from sweets because I'm awful sugar addict and can't stand a few hours without cookies or chocolate >____<
So to ensure that I give my hair everything it needs to grow, everyday in the morning I'm taking one pill of "Vitapil". It has iron, yeast, biotin, zinc, copper, everything that's usually associated with healthy hair. I stared to use it about 1,5 year ago when suddenly my hair stared to massively falling out. I tried few different products but nothing was helping. After 2,5 months of nightmare I stumbled upon Vitapil and 2 weeks later, my problem disappeared. From that time I never part with it <3 Unfortunately I couldn't find it here in Usa, so my family sends it to me every now and then. Puritan's Pride Vitamins for the Hair seems to be very similar, but it lacks for example biotin so I'm not sure if it will work as good as Vitapil does.
-Hair doesn't like high temperature!
To maintain healthy hair I'm avoiding styling with curling iron and straightener. Usually, when I want to curl my hair I try one of the non heat methods, and leave it overnight. I can't stand wet hair because I'm allergic to chlorine in water so, yes, I blow dry it, but always with the lowest temperature. When drying, I'm moving the blow-drier all the time all over my hair and try to keep it not too close to it. Also when washing hair, I do it with cool water. It doesn't have to be freezing cold but it's good to try to avoid hot water.
Before brushing hair, I very delicately detangle it with my fingers. It takes some time but also it prevents damage. With your hand you can untie all those complicated tangle without tearing out your hair. When brushing I divide hair in small parts, then hold one of the parts with hand, and slowly brush it. Ahh, and I never brush wet hair! Wet hair are very fragile and easy to damage that's why I only gently smooth it with fingers.
I wash my hair with chamomile shampoo. I'm using it for a long time now, (I don't know 7-8 years?) and my hair loves chamomile sooo much. In Poland there's big variety of shampoos with it, but again here in Usa I couldn't find any. My favorite is Yves Rocher's one, but Yves Rocher Usa doesn't have it in offer >___<
I know there's a lot of different opinions about trimming hair. I cut my hair once a year about 10cm. I do it mostly for the visual effect, it makes hair even, and even hair looks much more thick and healthy.
-And last but not least, remember to love your hair! Don't drag it, don't stress it, don't fry it, be patient and delicate with it.
I know that most what is written here is common knowledge and I haven said anything new, but I hope this post will help anyone who wants to grown long and beautiful hair.
Thank you for your time <3
As someone who has about your hair length, I second all of these things!! I however, didn't know that cold water could help with these things, I may try it in the future~ I know cold water is good for hair that is dyed, but didn't know it affected length as well. =O
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure it affects the length however cold water makes your hair shinier :D
DeleteYes, as Zeruda said, cold water can make your hair look shiny, but also it's better for your scalp ^__^ Like hot shower can dry your skin, the same way hot water can dry your scalp.
DeleteI wonder how you keep you hair when you sleep. Do you sleep with braids as well?
ReplyDeleteI think those vitamins and minerals pills are really good too, i started to eat something like that about two years ago and it has really improved my hair too. I try to eat better too, but I'm a terrible sugar addict as well >.<
Yes, it's so hard to stay on the healthy way when there's so many sweets in the world to try and cookies to bake!
DeleteActually I was suppose to write this in my post but totally forgot about it >___<
I sleep in braided hair, usually I put it on the pillow over my head but after I fall asleep, I don't think it stays in that place for a long time.
Your hair is really beautiful! You look like Rapunzel ^^
ReplyDeleteI always love my hair and try to keep it beautiful and "happy".
My hair don't like water or wet weather. And hot weather is not good for it too because it drys too fast.
It's hard to take care. ~*
Aww, thank you so much, that's so nice to hear!
DeleteIt's always good to treat your hair with love and patient, tough hair can be really problematic friend ^___^
Own thank you for making another post!
ReplyDeleteI am always so inspired when I read your blog, your posts are always so delicate and beautiful fairy like!
I would like to have hair like yours, but no use crying over what you can not have, my hair is very weak/thin and therefore i can not let too long without cutting it or it will start to fall off like nothing in this world but still dream for the day when he will have the same length as you'res!
Many hugs!
Thank you so much <3 I'm really flattered.
DeleteOn the other hand you with shorter hair you saving so much time and nerves hi hi ^____^ Some times I really think that not I own my hair but it owns me and I'm only there to brush it and spoil with good treatment >___<
Thank you for this post! Your hair is so amazing, I'm looking forward to have long hair again too, but mine grows really slow (>.<) I liked the tutorial a lot too, you're so beautiful <3
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
DeleteI wish you all the patient you need with growing your hair <3
I love your tutorial! I also do looped braid hairstyles, but yours is a bit different so I will try it sometime :)
ReplyDeleteAww, thank you, I'm so flattered to hear it from you <3
DeleteI sometimes make similar loops to yours, but only with hats, because my braid are to long so I have to hide the spare hair somewhere hi hi.
Yout hair ist so beautiful <3
ReplyDeleteI hope my hair will be that long one day!
Aww, thank you so much <3
DeleteThank you so much for this post! I know I was one of those annoying people asking you about your hair, so I think it was a really good idea to just combine everything into a post like this, for many other people to know how to treat their hair gently ^^
ReplyDeleteThank you for the inpiration and the motivation to keep my hair growing healthy, and also thank you for finding vitamins for all us girls, it always helps, even when you have a very stressful life, to have some vitamins. I read somwhere that sleeping poorly also makes hair fall and get very fragile :(
I'm really happy that you find it my post helpful <3
DeleteYes, unfortunately stress and lack of sleep can be a big enemy of healthy hair. Peace of mind is something very important for overall health. I remember the period of time around spring and winter last year . I was really stressed out about my collage in Poland, because it was my last year and it was full of exams, I also had to write my ba thesis and I was apart from my husband for almost a year because he was already working in America. I was the time when my hair fall started, and it made me even more depressed. I really affected my mind and my body. Now, when everything is behind me, again I fell really good and peaceful and my hair also are in very good condition.
Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much <3
ReplyDeleteWith hair loos it's good to analysis your diet and see if it lacks of any important vitamins or minerals.
I always have to be very wary about my iron because my blood tests often show that I'm on the edge of anemia, and that's really bad for hair >__<
I hope good supplements will help your hair and you wont have to worry about the loos, I know how depressing this can be!
you really have an epic, beautiful hair! thank you so much for sharing with us an useful post like this one! I might have to take vitamins too...
ReplyDeletegood to know you´re a vegetarian as well. :3
I always wanted to have long hair, maybe not that long as Yours, but at least to the waits. But i worry that i have thin hair from the nature, and thin long hair can't look that good as thick long hair. But maybe there's a way to make my hair thicker. Btw Your post is really helpful, thanks!
ReplyDeleteBtw, this outfit from Your tutorial, It's a dress with blouse, or only dress with long sleeves? It's really cute! I want to wear clothes like yours, but i'm pretty sure that i'll never look in this clothes that great, cute and beautiful like You.
DeleteYour hair is thick? On the pictures it looks rather thin and fragile. But, of course it's really beautiful :)
ReplyDeleteYour hair looks great!Love the cut,It's a great length.

ReplyDeleteYour hair is just... impossible beautiful. >.< And soooo long. *.* I want the shame length, but now I have just 78 centimeter long hair (this: http://www.kepfeltoltes.hu/view/130613/Dat_haj_www.kepfeltoltes.hu_.jpg ), and it's thin... I use virgin coconut oil, and silicon free sampoo, and I didn't dry my hair with hair dryer since... 7 years? Yes.
Congratulations for Your hair, You have a new fan. ^.^
